Trajan Pro & Leitura News

Why This Pairing?
Both fonts were added to the typekit library last week and I felt the two complimented each other well with Trajan as the big Headlining sans-serif font and Leitura News as the beautiful accompanying serif font for the body text.
Earlier this Month Yves Peters posted stating he was to produce Two Decades of Trajan in Movie Posters which, as it says on the tin, was to discuss just how often Trajan is used when creating movie posters as part of FontFeed’s ScreenFonts series.
I’ll admit to considering Trajan to be no more than a font I would have used jokingly when writing reports on Microsoft Office so to see it be held in such a positive light in the music industry came as something of a surprise.
Leitura News is admittedly the lesser known of the pairing. Made by Dino dos Santos’ DSType, it works perfectly as a paragraph/body text with 8 different Weights & Styles. The italic style almost looks like an entirely different font and becomes a lot more script like.
The italic ampersand is incredibly stylish, polished and not unlike the famous Baskerville one. Ampersand geeks out there might want to check it out as a similar alternative.
Yves Peters recently discussed how designers for many movie posters over the last 2 decades such as
TITANIC
have typeset their designs using members of the Trajan family, in my opinion for it's elegant effect.
